Slip Ring FAQ

Common questions about selecting and using industrial slip rings.

What information is needed to select a slip ring?

Start with circuit count, voltage, current, signal or data type, RPM, mounting style, space available and environment.

Can slip rings carry Ethernet or fieldbus signals?

Yes, but the slip ring must be selected for the communication type and data rate. Shielding, noise and cable routing matter.

What is a through-bore slip ring?

A through-bore slip ring has a centre hole so it can mount around a shaft, pipe or mechanical assembly.

What is a mercury-wetted slip ring?

It uses a liquid metal conduction path rather than conventional sliding brush contact. It can provide very low contact resistance and low electrical noise, but application suitability must be checked.

Can TME Systems help replace an existing slip ring?

Yes. Photos, markings, drawings, dimensions and electrical details will help identify a replacement or suitable alternative.
